Meet John Hilt. He lives The American Dream. His corner office looks out over the city’s beautiful skyline. His wife and children love him. His father and sister adore him. John has it all.
His past isn’t as perfect though, and for years he’s worked to keep it hidden. To keep it behind him.
The past refuses to stay dead. Someone shows up that John knew long ago. Someone named Harry.
He shouldn’t be here now, because John killed Harry.
But he’s back. Harry shows up everywhere, and tells John awful, awful things… wanting him to do something he hasn’t done in a long time.
He wants John to kill people again.
Now, dead bodies are appearing across the city and Detective Alan Tremock has been assigned to the case. A meticulous and unrelenting cop, he’ll risk everything to find the murderer wreaking havoc.
John’s grip on reality is breaking. Tremock is getting closer and closer to the truth. And, all the while Harry just keeps whispering, “Kill them, John. Kill them all…”

One of my pet peeves is cliffhangers. I believe that any book - even - in a series should be a stand alone book. This one is not. I found the story line interestingly enough, though somethings do not make much sense, but I approached that lack of resolutions to be connected somehow in the rest of the series. But I feel my time was wasted in the hours I invested in this book, only to be let down. I'm not sure I am willing to read any more of his books based on the abrupt "to be continued" ending in this book. It just wasn't that good. For that I am disappointed.Product details

Red Rain Part One A Gripping Psychological Thriller edition by David Beers Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I'm really stuck on the series. I did't know it was a series when I read the 1st one and I thought how is he going to end this so fast and then I realized there are 2 more books. I'm on the 2nd now. I have to warn you that it is really hard to put down and you will not like most of the characters in this book but it is like passing a accident, you can't look away.
Kept me on the edge, couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. Would hae gotten a 5 star but I didn't care for the language. The storyline would have been just s good with out all the cursing.
This book is about a man who became addicted to murder in the same way an alcoholic is addicted to alcohol. His addictive personality, called Harry, dominates his unconscious life and urges him to continue committing murder while his conscious self battles his addiction until he finally submits to Harry. This book will fascinate, but don't start it just before bed.
The story is good but this is only half the book. I hate these cliffhangers where you are not told upfront that this is not the whole story . It feels very manipulative and I am unlikely to buy anything from this author .
This book was good enough to get me to continue reading it til the end; but not good enough to get me to order the next one in the series.
Good first book in this series. John is a very complex character that I found myself sympathizing with despite what he is all about. I liked the flashbacks of the mother talking to a psychologist about her family issues.
One thing I was sort of curious about - John talks to Harry quite a bit throughout the book in the presence of other people... Do they not notice that he is talking to nothing? I perceived that Harry was John's hallucination but no one seems to be at all worried that he is talking to nothing. Or maybe John just didn't notice people's dismay over it. There was also a spot where the wrong name was used and I had to stop to get it straight. I highlighted it in the book so the author can go back and look at it to fix it.
I am still giving the book 5 stars - I love psychological thrillers and it kept me reading to find out what John and Harry might be up to next. I think I'll go on and give the second book a shot.
If you aren't into cliffhangers, be aware that this one ends on a HUGE cliffhanger!
I am not going to rehash the plot of Red Rain; I don't want to accidentally give away any spoilers, and I believe the description of the story itself does it better than i ever could. What i will say is that once again Mr. Beers has created an environment and populated with people who seem to truly LIVE. They are complex, they have feelings, they are flawed (man, are they ever!). I will say that I love it when a book sucks me in and pulls so hard, i don't realize how much time has disappeared. I don't realize I'm missing deadlines, that things aren't getting done, or that the day has shifted from morning to noon. All i know, is that I'm in the thralls of a great story, and I MUST know what is going to happen next. Just one more section. Just one more chapter. Just a little more story, THEN I'll return to my regularly scheduled life. A great story is like the most intoxicating drug; it sucks you in, pulls you under, and you're enjoying it so much, you don't even realize you're drowning.
One of the great things about a novel written in a serial format/release schedule, is that you always have the next book to look forward to, when your current one ends. But wait! There's MORE!
One of the WORST parts of a serial format/release schedule is that you DON'T get everything at once. It leaves you wanting. It leaves you needing. It is desire unfulfilled. It teaches you patience, when patience is the LAST virtue you wish to practice at that moment.
The best stories smack you upside the head when you finish. You're in a daze. "What was that?!? Is that it? There must be more, right?" You resurface. You rejoin your family and friends. You attend to chores which took a backseat when reading became all important. That happened to me when i tapped the last page, not knowing it was the last page. "To be continued" stared at me. What? No! Not already?!?!?!
There are very few authors that have this effect upon me; in fact, i can count them on one hand. Then I discovered David Beers. Like every smart pusher, he entices you with a freebie"just to try it out". Before you know it, you are searching online for books long out of print, and asking him (through social media and email-whatever it takes!) to please WRITE FASTER!!!!!
The interesting part about how i came to find Mr. Beers was not through my favorite genre (horror/mystery), but through science fiction. Even there, his storytelling pulled me in. Now that I'm reading his horror novels, I'm even more enthralled.
I apologize for this review not focusing on plot, or characters, or details; but i know many others have gone that route. Suffice it to say, Mr. Beers takes me outside of my own life, puts me squarely where he wants me, and i love the ride. I strongly suspect that I'm not on this ride alone. I can't wait to see where he takes me next!
One of my pet peeves is cliffhangers. I believe that any book - even - in a series should be a stand alone book. This one is not. I found the story line interestingly enough, though somethings do not make much sense, but I approached that lack of resolutions to be connected somehow in the rest of the series.
